A few nights ago I kept hearing a strange sound at our back door. I went to see what it was and discovered that we had a tiny visitor. A squirrel jumped down into our enclosed back porch and couldn't get back out. Our porch has a rock wall surrounding it on all sides. I watched it for a while and then decided to feed it, so I through out a piece of bread. This is as close as he ever got to eating it though. I think because he was scared to be so close to humans and couldn't escape he was a little too nervous to trust anything we gave him.
He kept trying to get into our house through the window. He would run and jump at the glass or climb up the screen door over and over again.
He was very entertaining. Abe almost gave him a heart attack by knocking on the glass right where he was hanging on the screen door. After this incident I started feeling bad for the little guy. So Abe and I went on a walk to search for a tree branch long enough to lean against the porch so he could climb out. We found one but he was still so scared after Abe knocked on the glass that he didn't move from the spot he was in till after we went off to bed hours later. Sometime during the night he got out. I will miss our little friend. He is the closest thing to having a pet we have ever had as a married couple. Maybe he will come back to visit again someday.
