First Thanksgiving Dinner

I have enjoyed a nice home cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year of my life and have never played a very big role in its preparation. It's probably just because I am the baby in my family, but I have never been asked to prepare anything very difficult for the meal. In fact until the last 5 years I was never asked to bring or prepare anything at all. Since my family decided that I was old enough to participate they have always given me assignments like, rolls or mashed potatoes...things they figured I could handle by myself.

Well this year I am not going home for the holidays and Abe has some younger siblings that live near us and would like to get together along with a few friends in the ward. This suddenly makes me the cook! I have to make almost everything myself and I am totally stressed about it! Well I am really only stressed about the turkey. I realized that not only have I never made a turkey before but I have never even watched a turkey be made or helped in anyway with the turkey. It was always magically there at dinner time I guess. Now that I will be making one for myself I am open to tips. My mom was kind enough to write me step by step instructions but if anyones has an awesome recipe they want to share with me I would love to get it. Otherwise I will be picking one at random off the internet. The easier the better, remember, I am a novice.

Meg I made a turkey two years ago and it was actually pretty easy and turned out yummy. I think I just mixed a bunch of spices together and rubbed them all over, mixed with tons of butter. Then I stuffed the inside with the stuffing mix (and you can get turkeys these days that have all the giblets in a bag that you just pull out) and then roasted it in a bag for several hours. Easy peasy.

Don't stress, AJ and Aliese and gang will love anything you fix. Use a bag to bake your bird in & Buy a turkey that has a roasting (thing) that pops up when the turkey is done. I separate the skin from the meat and place slices of butter under the skin on top of the meat. It melts as the turkey roasts and keeps the meat moist. Rince out the cavity of the bird then add some celery, onion, spices and butter to make it taste good. Some people have addedsliced apple or orange to the insides too.
Everything will be delicious--no stress--your a pro. Abe has carved our turkey as I remember also. so your good to go. love ya

Sorry this is too late to help you this year, but the best turkey I ever had was the first one I ever made. Humble, I know. You ate it so I guess you can remember if you hated it or not. But it really was good because I got the recipe off of Food Network and it had such clear step-by-step instructions that even I couldn't mess it up. It was the Brined and Roasted Turkey recipe by Emeril Lagasse. The brine is what makes the difference.

I want to hear how your Thanksgiving went.
