Tired, Freezing, Croweded, Exciting, and Memorable

We started out the day by waking up at about 5 am and hurried off to take the metro into town. The lines to get into the metro wrapped out of the station and around the parking garage, but somehow Abe and Ammon navigated us right past the two lines and into the station without waiting at all. We honestly thought that the lines were for people that didn't have tickets yet so we didn't feel too dishonest until we were about to get on the platform and someone yelled out that the lines were for everyone...oops, sorry. Well we were happy to get onto a train right away at least. We were smashed on really tight but it was by far the funnest metro ride any of us have ever had. We met the two woman above who were hillarious and were making everyone around them crack up! They were so great I had to take a picture of our new friends from Chicago.

Once we got to the mall we hurried to secure a place in front of a mega tron and got settled in. It was freezing!!!! I had on: 2 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants, 2 shirts, 2 sweat shirts, my fleece lining and winter coat, a scarf, 2 pair of gloves and a hat and I was still so cold I was aching! It didn't help that we had to sit outside from 8 am till 1 pm without moving a whole lot. It was a great experience though and I am glad we went.

The one thing that really bothered us was when President Bush came out the whole crowed started booing and heckling him. We felt that was very poor taste on behalf of the crowed.

I wish I could have gotten a better swearing in picture but this was as good as it was going to get.

This is Ammon's friend Nicki that sat with us. She was pretty excited about everything as you can see.
After the croweds cleared out we looked around and there was garbage everywhere!!! We were very disturbed by how inconciderate the people that were there were. It seemed to me that they must have not heard the part in Obama's speech about taking care of our planet and its recources.

We did however see a very some group of goof Americans walking around with trash bags cleaning up everyone else's garbage. Of course my hard working husband stopped to help them. I am proud of you babe! I would have helped if my hands hadn't been completely numb.

In the end it was totally worth freezing our butt's off to witness such a historical event. We miss UT but if we had to live anywhere other than UT it would have to be DC.

this is so awesome that you guys were able to go. I was disappointed to not see Abe in the rainbow wig that he promised me. I looked for him on the TV all day long. Sorry about the cold, you should have brought some apple juice for Abe to drink during the event, he could have warmed the whole section with all of his hot air!

Your great-grand kids will sit quietly and in awe to hear about how you were on the Mall the day Obama took the oath of office. You were there on the mountiantop. I'm proud of you for going and proud of Meg of braving the cold. What a day for America!!!!

That's really cool that you guys were able to go to such a historic event. However, I was really disappointed to hear about the crowd booing President Bush. That man has spent the last 8+ years doing nothing but trying to serve our country and maybe not everyone agreed with the hard decisions that he had to make, but we still owe him our respect and he does not deserve to be booed. And also it bugs me that people treat Obama like he is our savior, coming to save the country. Who knows how we will all feel about him come next election? So sad, that people can be so ignorant and hypocritcal.

Anyway, off the soap box, but seriously that's awesome that you could go.
